Guildhawk achieves new ISO:27001 gold standard for global data security

Way back in 2013, Guildhawk (formerly named Today Translations) became the first tech-enabled language service provider (LSP) in the world to secure the ISO:27001 data security standard and has now achieved the new ISO:27001 (2022) standard.

Serving global blue-chip clients that include Mitsubishi, Barclays, Amgen and United Nations, Guildhawk takes security seriously, passing every ISO:27001 audit with zero non-conformities and receiving praise from inspectors.

The 2022 standard has 93 controls compared to the 114 in the previous (2013) version. The new controls are organised into four themes (Organisational, People, Physical, and Technological) instead of the previous 14 domains. The standard introduced 11 new controls to address modern security challenges, such as threat intelligence and cloud security.

Holders of ISO:27001 certification must migrate to the 2022 standard by 31 October 2025. After this date, certifications to the older 2013 version will become invalid.

Maintaining ISO:27001 delivers tangible results for companies. The certification has contributed to Guildhawk winning major clients and global contracts that require the evidence of compliance that ISO:27001 provides. The controls have also been applied to the development of GAI Translate™, the secure AI translation software developed by Guildhawk for clients in high-risk sectors like legal, mining and pharma.

Certification also contributes to awards. In 2019, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth honoured Guildhawk with the Queen’s Award. And in 2025, the Safety and Security Entrepreneur Awards (SSEAs), honoured Guildhawk with the Market Disruptor Award.

Most recently, the UK government named Guildhawk and its technology development partner Sheffield Hallam University as one of the most successful Knowledge Transfer Partnerships in history for their development of secure AI translation solutions.

Security is now the non-negotiable USP

All professional LSPs strive for the best quality translations. For Guildhawk, quality begins with security, since protection of data is non-negotiable for their clients that are primarily in regulated sectors.

“For global businesses, the simple question is no longer, 'Is the translation accurate?' but 'Is my data safe during the translation process?'” said Jurga Zilinskiene MBE, Founder and CEO of Guildhawk.

David Clarke, Chief Security Officer at Guildhawk and former Head of the City of London Police Fraud Squad said,

“Global organisations expect their suppliers to apply robust controls to protect data and to be able to evidence compliance. ISO:27001 certification and the audits that test controls gives the assurance that everything from linguist vetting to safe delivery of translations is secured by design.”
