OUR WORK – UN Environment

Translating biodiversity reports with UN Environment

Services: Human translation and consultancy

Industries: Government and NGO

The United Nations Environment Programme (UN Environment) is the leading global environmental authority and sets the global environmental agenda.

Their mission is to provide leadership and encourage partnership in caring for the environment by inspiring, informing, and enabling nations and peoples to improve their quality of life without compromising that of future generations.

A major ecology report

One of the largest reports UN Environment had commissioned in the last decade, the Economics of Ecosystems and Biodiversity for Local and Regional Policy Makers, required translation into five languages. The publication, which was aimed at leading policy makers, contained hundreds of thousands of words across 210 pages and demanded precision in language to ensure international consistency.

The publication was translated into Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish within the project’s timescale of two months.

Our expertise

This project called for meticulous use of language from a small group of language professionals and detailed project management to help the client keep costs as low as possible. After selecting 15 language professionals including experienced translators, proofreaders and typesetters, Guildhawk’s accounts team were in constant communication with the client across the course of the project.

The publication was translated into Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish within the project’s timescale of two months. It was fully typeset by Guildhawk to produce a format ready for distribution by the client. Since the report was published, we have continued to work with UN Environment on a number of additional publications.
