Jan 19th, 2026 - Guildhawk joined leaders from across the UK’s technology, culture, and public‑service sectors at the UKRI CDT in AI for Digital Media Inclusion Showcase & Collaboration Event, held in the AI Google office in London this week.

Led by the University of Surrey’s AI research department, the gathering brought together organisations committed to building an AI‑enabled future that includes everyone - regardless of language, background, or digital literacy.

Guildhawk was honoured to be invited by Prof Amanda Murphy, partnership lead at Royal Holloway University and the University of Surrey, to help lead this inspiring event.

This event highlighted the growing need for AI literacy that extends beyond English, with discussions underscoring how communities who use other languages, including BSL, continue to face barriers to understanding and benefiting from AI tools.

Data risks and biases in AI models

Throughout the day, we examined what it means to create responsible, representative datasets, especially for cultural institutions and public bodies. Emerging projects and research demonstrated the sector’s collective efforts to strengthen data diversity, improve transparency, and ensure human‑centred decision‑making remains at the core of AI innovation.

The event also shone lights on how AI can advance public good: from enabling emergency services to identify vulnerable individuals previously hidden from view, to helping cultural and creative organisations expand public access and manage limited resources more effectively.

Discussions emphasised that trust is essential for adoption; that people need AI systems that enhance human capability, rather than compete with it.

Our perspective

For Guildhawk, the conversations throughout the event reinforced the values that have guided the company’s work for decades.

The challenges raised - responsible data practices, ethical AI development, multilingual inclusion, and building trust in emerging technologies - reflect the very areas where Guildhawk continues to lead through its work with governments, global enterprises, and cultural institutions.

From safeguarding data integrity to enabling multilingual knowledge access and supporting organisations on their AI adoption journey, Guildhawk remains committed to advancing technologies that are transparent, trustworthy, and inclusive by design.
