Continuous UI localisation for a European cross-border payments platform
The client and platform are anonymised throughout; names are withheld under NDA. Volumes and languages are described in banded, non-identifying terms.
Sector: Finance (cross-border payments) / FX fintech
Language: Six European languages (Dutch, French, German, Italian, Russian, Spanish)
Service: Human Translation & Localisation; GAI Translate (secure AI translation); AI Verification; Multilingual Data Services
The Challenge
A European cross-border payments and foreign-exchange fintech was rolling its digital platform out to clients across multiple European markets. Its interface: client onboarding, beneficiary management, payment and settlement flows, value-date handling, KYC prompts and validation and error messaging, had to read as clearly and correctly in each local language as it did in English. In regulated payments, imprecise wording is not a cosmetic problem: an ambiguous settlement or KYC message can mislead a client, trigger support tickets or create compliance exposure. The content also arrived continuously, in small tagged batches tied to product releases, so the client needed a language partner that could deliver quickly, keep terminology consistent across every release, and preserve the interface placeholders and mark-up intact.
The Solution
Guildhawk ran the localisation as a continuous, asset-backed programme rather than a series of one-off jobs:
- Built and maintained a shared translation memory and UI glossary so recurring interface terms (payments, beneficiaries, settlement, value dates, KYC) stayed identical across every release and every target language.
- Localised the English source into six European languages (Dutch, French, German, Italian, Russian and Spanish) using vetted, finance-experienced human linguists working to the platform's tone and register.
- Used GAI Translate, Guildhawk's secure human-in-the-loop AI translation platform, with AI Verification and human review to accelerate high-volume, repetitive UI content without sacrificing accuracy.
- Preserved interface variables, placeholders, HTML tags and string keys exactly, so localised text dropped straight back into the product with no engineering rework or broken layouts.
- Processed every batch inside Guildhawk's secure ISO 27001 / Azure confidentiality envelope, with a full audit trail appropriate for a regulated financial-services client handling client-facing content.
The Results
The programme gave the client a dependable, repeatable localisation pipeline:
- Consistent, finance-appropriate wording across all six languages, reused automatically from the growing translation memory as the interface evolved.
- Iterative batches were turned around on cycles aligned to the client's product releases, so localisation kept pace with development rather than blocking it.
- Growing translation-memory reuse meant repeated and near-identical strings were leveraged across releases, containing cost and effort as the platform expanded.
- Placeholder- and tag-safe delivery removed a common source of localisation defects, reducing back-and-forth with the client's engineering team.
- A single accountable supplier and a documented audit trail gave the client traceability over what was translated, by whom and how useful evidence in a regulated environment.
Why this matters for payments an fintech teams in Europe
Payments and FX platforms live or die on trust, and trust is built one interface string at a time. When settlement instructions, KYC prompts or error messages read awkwardly or differently in each language, users hesitate, support volumes rise and compliance teams worry. Yet UI content is exactly the kind of work that fragments across freelancers and ad-hoc tools: terminology drifts, placeholders break, and nobody owns consistency across releases.
Guildhawk offers the opposite: one accountable partner combining finance-literate human linguists, secure human-in-the-loop AI, and durable terminology and memory assets built up over more than two decades, all delivered inside an ISO 27001 confidentiality envelope. For a scaling payments business, that means localisation that keeps pace with product, stays consistent as the interface grows, and stands up to scrutiny.
